Thinking of buying this NSR250, thoughts?

Postby kiske » Sat Nov 12, 2011 6:05 am

Alright guys,

I'm considering buying an NSR250 (http://www.mocyc.com/store/view.php?idclassified=608181) - it's in bad shape, which is not necessarily a bad thing, as I want a long-term project.

Can anyone help identify what model it is? I'm thinking it's one of the earlier models, maybe an MC16? It's an RR model. I think the RR model comes with a wet clutch and not dry (sp/se)? I will replace the swingarm with a floating banana arm from an RGV250 (already have one).

I spoke with the guy (although my Thai is pretty bad) and it's legal and registered. but non-running.

If I buy, I will replace both cylinders/pistons etc. with those from the NSR150 - and thus it will be an NSR300 - as I can get a hold of countless 150 cylinders for less than 20quid a pop.

What do you think? It's quite cheap at 18,000THB (about 370sterling).

This is an MC16 - bodywork looks the same? I'm guessing it's an 85/86 model RR MC16?

A 250 smoker is the best bike you can buy. But keep in mind that there's more than just the engine to rebuild on that bike. And you might be in for a lot of headaches. But if you have the mechanical skill and enjoy doing the work.....then why not?

Yea, it will be an expensive project, but worthwhile I feel. I just need to decide if the MC16 is wise, or if i should wait a little for a later model.

On the topic of 2strokes... make another video of you riding with temple and his little screamer!!!!!! :)

The MC16 isn't a bad bike, anthough parts for the bike are a bit hard to find.

I passed on that bike, but this one is now available, which I'm thinking about. At least it's running :)

I know im a bit of a late commer in this but nice find dude!!! Here in america we can only dream of 2 strokes that are road legal. Im planning on getting an rz350 sometime this summer. The nsr here in america is technically illeagal but its more of in a greyzone where you can still register and insure it. They also sell for 10,000 usd+ in good condition and 2000+ for part bikes. Hopefully I can move to japan or taiwan and get along well enough to eventually get a 500 gp based bike!!! but even in that condition i think it was a nice find and well worth it! ;D
