Actually the difference in weight between a modern 600 and a 1000 are around 29 to 40 pounds for most of the major brands.
As an example the 2010 cbr600 weighs 410 pounds vs the cbr1000 at 439.
Its not something u would notice with the extra 400cc's.

Hm good point. I'd still rather have a 600 - 750cc though. 1000 is to much power for me and I'd never use it. Plus where I live there is a lot of traffic at times so I'd be turning it off every 10 seconds becaues it would over heat

I'll admit some of the liter bikes are sexy, especially the new ZX-10. Sadly, I am too short to comfortably ride them and they are way out of my league anyways - experience wise. I wouldn't mind a hayabusa for my longer commutes though, I have ridden one before and they are incredible comfortable. I think I will stick to the 600s though. Honestly though, most people will never even be able to push a 600 to its limits. If we all could, then MotoGP would be flooded with us.

I beg to differ,  I had a ZX10R and it was soooooo much lighter than my TT600

True.
Bigger cc-bikes are often lighter and easier to drive than their lower-cc versions

My bad. I just always thought higher cc bikes were hevier. They look a LOT bigger. I fealt like an any when I sat on a CBR 1000RR. And it fealt a little heavy. Though that could be because i"m used to my 500. lol

Yeah it is. So far I've gotten to ride my friends katana 600 and after he put a 750 motor in it and my other friends R6 and another friends 09 cbr 1000rr that another friend let him barrow. So much fun. well everything except the 1000. I just rode it around the block and it scared the hell out of me. They have so much power it's scary. It would be neat to have one eventually, but I think I'll stick with my 500 till I get enough money for a 600 or 750

well yes, but when was TT600 designed what year was when it hit the market
also you can have two bikes that weighs exactly the same and one can feel much lighter than the other, its not just about the kilos there's a lot more in geometry of suspension, suspension it self, frame, the way your body is positioned on the bike, center of gravity, tires play a big role in how the bike feels...there so much more than just weight

I haven't really been on these forums much but last x-mas i found an R1 on eBay for $4650 and i jumped on it. the bike is in beautiful condition and only had 11k miles. it really was a deal i couldn't pass up.

The first ride i was just amazed at what the bike could do with so little effort. i noticed i was sitting in first gear alot just because the bike uses little of its potential to do reasonable road speeds. then i took it on the highway and was doing 90 and when i realized how much more potential was there it kinda scared me.

when you look at the numbers between the R6 and the R1 it really isn't that different. 0-60 on an r6 is about 3.5 and on an r1 its about 3.0 which doesn't seem like alot. HOWEVER the R6 hits it powerband around 25-30 mph where the R1 waits until about 40-45 mph. so 0-60 the R1 has just started to use the powerband where as the r6 its just before the peak of it. also the R6 can do about 80 mph redline in first gear while the r1 hits about 100mph. (which makes me wonder, who was the guy at the design meeting who said 80 mph in first gear wasn't enough.) The 07 powerband is also notoriously sharp for the r6, its got no power down low then the power band kicks in and the bike just takes off, where as the r1 has alot smoother of a transition into the powerband. (this is mainly specific to the 07 r6/r1 model)

That being said i do enjoy the R1 but i also miss my R6. The R1 is a great bike and its just mind blowing at what its capable of but it also feels like it wants me dead. it needs to be babied whenever i ride it, and i can never just open it up and let roar. but then again when you do let it roar and you haven't killed yourself there is that slight sense of accomplishment for being able to tame such a beast.

^ this is the main reason i love my bike.
I can seriously just get on and ride it till its warmed up, then thrash the shit out of it on everyday roads.
The 650r's powerband runs threw the entire rev range and only starts to bog down around its redline.
Its got just enough power to be fun without being dangerous.
I see so many riders on supersports in my area who ride like total pussies ( not saying u do)  and i don't blame them.
If they redline the bike they are riding they will be breaking the law in first gear.

Im not saying i wouldn't wanna own a liter bike, i would probably just make it a track only bike.
Where else can u thrash a bike like that safely and go balls out without worrying about cops and little old ladies pulling out in front of u.

My friend bought a zx1100 which he recently sold, but when he had it he never once hit the redline on it.
Had it for like 4 months rode it daily and never once even got close to the redline.
He used to ride it like a chicken shit cause it was just so much power.
Even when he would intentionally speed he never came close to going all out.

I'd rather a smaller bike I can strangle than a larger bike that'll never, ever meet its potential between my legs - so given the choice, I'd take the 600cc.
I divide a lot of my riding time between the streets of Sydney's 40kmph CBD and heading out to its satellite regional suburbs for work, and in neither case could I find use for upwards of 130-150kW, as exhilarating as I'm sure it would be to fang 200 horses down a bustling a highway.

i dont think any british motorway is straight enough and empty enough to get to full speed on a 600 so a 1000 would be kinda silly here
