Gear

What gear do cruiser riders tend to wear? See a lot of cruisers just in jeans, a leather jacket and a helmet. Even spotted one rider in a bandana instead of a helmet. I personally will be buying a cruiser but would also like to keep myself safe while cruising. Any recommendations?

Just wear full proper gear... you don't have to wear a power ranger suit to be safe. To answer your question though, they TEND to wear a leather jacket and half a helmet, but that's stupid.

Thanks. Yeh full helmet for me, i like my face. Whats your riding jacket like? Its amazing how many times i see bikers with no gear on. Even today i saw a guy riding a Suzuki Bandit wearing shorts and a t-shirt, he had a helmet though

Looked into your gear. Looks very good and very reasonably priced, especially those Vcan helmets

I'm thinking of getting a pair of dragon jeans, but cash flow is a little limited at the moment.

I do ATG on highways, skip the outer riding pants for local trips.  Full face helmet always.  Fox Creek jacket for temps < 85F, mesh Joe Rocket for above.  I like the alpinestars lace-up boots w/ velcro cover over, pretty comfy when they break in and the vents help on hot days.  THought about the dragon jeans, which would save some time fiddling when I'm going up on the highway- but the riding pants only take a couple minutes total, though its very helpful if you have saddlebags for storing them.

I was up in ME/VT/NH a couple weeks ago and was amazed at the lack of gear on most of the cruiser riders.  The majority wore no helmets at all, jeans and t-shirt in the best squid tradition.  I guess the emt's up there are good at scraping meat off the road...

Around here harley riders are great for not wearing any gear. I don't know what it is about riding an HD that makes guys feel the need to where nothing but jeans, and maybe a thin leather vest. Most of them only ride on the weekends, nice nights, etc. I guess if you're gonna be a fair weather rider and just ride around town, it's not all that bad. But then you get the guys that travel for whatever events HD riders go to and they still wear no gear. I guess it's all about being a bad ass, and gear is a sign of fear and weakness or something. I call it a sign of self-control and intelligence.
