My Plan to get my Bike, and you?

Postby Simman » Sun May 02, 2010 6:15 am

Well...this is what I'm scheming...

I'll have a part time job by the 8th this month. I'll start saving now through my first year of college. By the time Spring '11 rolls around, I should have more then enough to pay for a down payment, fees, and Insurance. In the unlikely case I dont, my Mom said she would help with the payments (Surprised the sh*t outta me..she wasn't very supportive when I told her I wanted a bike...but that was 2 years ago.)

Chances are I'll be getting a Ninja 650r (fuel injection for the winter. I do plan on riding unless ice and snow say otherwise). but there's a possibility that I'll get a 250r because its cheaper and seems to be a better bike to learn on (More forgiving anyway). I still have time...another year or so to decide.

How'd you guys pull of getting your bikes?

I still have to start saving up some money. I'm gonna be busy all summer, so i'll be looking for a job around august. I won't be looking for an expensive bike, but if i can land a job close enough to get to after school, i'll look to buy something like a ninja 250 or 500 by the time next spring rolls around. I'll be looking to buy a car probably too, so definitely both will be cheap. Of course the motorcycle will be first because it'll be cheaper. I'll be looking for something under 2k, and get only liability (third party) insurance on it. I should be paying less than 300 USD a year for insurance.

Then i'll save for a cage. Too bad that'll be putting me near 1K USD a year for insurance. I think i'm gonna own a boat soon too. So i'll want a truck that can pull the boat around. I'll go from no vehicles to a shit ton in no time. It'll be fun finding a place for all of them. My parents will kick me out, lol.

If you are working hard while going to school for the bike, (especially if you are taking out school loans) I'd look into the 250R. It will have so much more use around town and you can upgrade later if you feel the need to; it won't even cost you that much more for having purchased the 250R beforehand after resale, insurance rate, and gas mileage come into play.

That's exactly what i'll be looking to use mine for, so something small like the ninja 250r would definitely work to my advantage. I'll get an older one so insurance will be cheap and gas consumption will be great. I might need to take a few decent length highway rides though, so i may be better off looking for a 500. I'm talking 200+ miles, so the 250 might be a bit too small. I'll see what happens when the time comes.

My first bike was bought after about 6 months of working part time. I only had to pay for my car insurance, gas, and cell phone bill so I saved almost all of my paycheck every time.

Well my parents pay for my cellphone bill as long as i don't use basically any minutes. Text messaging only except for the 2 numbers i get to call for free and nights and weekends. I don't have a car, thus no car insurance. I should be able to save up pretty quick for a motorcycle and eventually car. IF i can find a job i'm able to get to in a timely manner after school.

Seeing how I'm going to community college, The cost isnt a major factor since most if not all will be covered by Financial aid (I love that stuff).

The hard part is whether to get the 250r or 650r. Fun and zippity, or something that'll keep me moving through the winter months. I'm sure this coming winter will help me decide. :)
