Is engine-braking bad for the bike?

Postby animeguitarist » Mon Sep 26, 2011 5:30 am

Hey guys. I sorta noticed the other day that when I am riding near my house, residencial areas with 20-30mph limits, that I rarely use the brakes and do most of my stopping with the throttle. This let me to wonder, does engine-braking put extra strain on the engine, gears or drive chain?

Cheers.

No not at all, its actually good to engine brake.
Its keeps your riding quite smooth aswell.

Note: sliping your clutch when engine braking will wear it a little bit more than normal.

Good? Eh. It's not bad, though.
