What's the opinion of Buells? I've been looking around at bikes, and don't remember hearing much about them. Anybody have any experience with them?

On the first longer ride I ever did (I was with my friend) another guy joined up with us and we rode for a few hours together, very cool. He was riding a Buell. We stopped off at a coffee shop eventually, and he had nothing but good things to say about his bike. It was a cool bike.. shaft driven, if I recall correctly

I think they're cool as hell, but i wouldn't get one if i was on a really tight budget. Parts may be a bit expensive because of some of the very unique things they did with those bikes and they weren't made for many years. I do want one though.

Buell's ... 2 words; Wicked Powerband.

Those things got torque that'll rip your face off.
They're not the fastest by far, they're not the most sporty, but they sure are fun.
I test rode an XB12S, one of the most fun bikes I've ever ridden for sure.

Drawbacks are that Buell went bankrupt due to the great parent company Harley Davidson. So you may find repairs costing you quite a lot. I suppose they're pretty reliable and maintenance free though, due to the belt drive.

They didn't really go bankrupt, HD just decided to close the doors becuase the current executive management at HD is shortsighted and more concerned with selling underperforming $30k cruisers and assorted leather garbage, rather than a quality bike that would appeal to a broader audience.

That said, they're great bikes, and I'm sure that HD dealerships are still stocking spare parts, so you shouldn't have much trouble if something breaks.
