Dropped bike during lesson :(

Last week i did my basic training (cbt) on a scooter, but since i actually want to learn to ride a motorcycle i decided to book a lesson and get to grips with the gears. It all goes well nd the teacher says, 'lets go for a ride'. Its pissin down with rain nd this was the second time iv every been on the road. Anyway it all goes well and am lovin it, even went 60mph on some awesome country style roads (lovin it since i usually walk everywhere). THEN i come to a T-junction and the main road a pullin into is uphill. So av stopped, in first gear, the roads clear, so i go (worried am gonna stall, didnt) tried to turn but wasnt turnin fast enough, i thought, 'shit shit shit am gonna be drivin on the pavement' but before i do bike does a 180 skid thin nd am on the floor in the middle of the a juntion.

So my question is... Wat the hell? 

Ps. Didnt hav any trouble pickin the bike up, i think it was probably the adrenaline boost caused by me thinkin that the world is pointin at me callin me a pussy

You may have let the clutch out a bit quick, with the high revs for the hill start causing the back wheel to spin out on the give way lines at the junction.

I did the exact same thing, except on a 600cc bandit back in october. Since I had so much more power going into the back wheel mine was a bit more spectacular and the bike went 180 left, then highsided to the right catapulting me 20ft down the road.

Your bike probably did the same, but with less power and a smaller tire it just span out till it went down. Then painted lines are slippery as hell in the wet.

Possible target fixation too? Just looking at the pavement out of panic will be enough to veer you into it.

On stops like that, lean the bike right before you take off. It allows you to take a sharper turn without becoming unstable. Just DO NOT let go of the gas or you will fall. (also make sure you get your feet up asap when doing it)

Cheers guys for the info. Yeah, i thin i was a bit heavy with the throttle nd i wasnt lookin into the turn, i (god knows y) was doin it as two seperate manouvers instead of a smooth turn. I guess this is al part of learnin.

Haha my instructor was like 'ur bloody heavy handed ye', he then straighten the mirror, we got back to ridin nd half a mile down the raod says, 'oh btw r u alright?' nice to know he cares about his customers lol

I did a very similar thing on my CBT, let the clutch out too quick bike went forward quite fast tryed to turn, and i think i pulled the front brake, i was on the floor quite quick lol.

Even though i kind of expected it, it's still funny to see all the people that did the exact same thing. And i am no exception. Mine was at a cross junction (if thats the right term) so i had 3 lanes of traffic waitng at red lights and the traffic behind me waiting for me to get up, laughing at me, although i didn't see them coz i didn't want to look. Thank god for full face helmets though.
Did you all still pass the cbt? Because he failed me but i think he was just being a dickhead and trying to get me to pay for another lesson, went somewhere else though.

Hello, first of all I am new to the forum, but i follow our mate m13 for 2/3 years now on youtube. My name is Dave, 20 years old and trying to pass the motorcycle exam in a few months or so.

Since a few weeks I am  training for my motorcycle license. As a part of my exam you need to control several manouvres. For example: quick stop and slalom. I failed pretty hard on the SLOW slalom this week because my steering wasnt good, you guys got any tips for a rookie ??
I drive a Honda cb500 similiar, just like the picture below, without the race exhaust  .

Example of the cone slalom wich is a part of the motorcycle exam in Holland. Slow and Fast separated as an own test.

sorry to hear about your failure on your mod1 test, I hope you pass it this time I am gonna have another lesson then do my theory test. Once I've past everything I can get my ninja and since it'll be the summer holidays, the car park at the school down the road will be empty and I will have an awesome place to practice

How slow is the slow slalom? If you have to go really slow, then you'll do best feathering your rear brake. Hold the clutch in a little bit to keep the rpms up so the bike doesn't stall, keep the throttle steady, and approach the cones a little faster than you want to go. Rather than letting off the throttle to slow down, just give it some rear brake. Try that.

DON'T look down at the cones, or the bike. Keep your head straight, and looking down the set of cones. You look down, you're gonna wanna put a foot down. If you feel like you're going to slow and you're going to put a foot down, just let go of that brake a little bit to stand the bike back up.

Also you have to counter balance. Keep your body straight, knees tight to the tank, but push the bike down in the direction you're turning. Make sure you keep your knees tight to the tank. DO NOT stick a knee out. That'll keep you from getting all wobbly with the handlebars.

When i work for the msf course, i like to practice the slow offset weave when i'm on break. It's moderately challenging, and tons of fun. Especially on a full sized bike.

I don't know how your assessment thingy works wherever you are but if you dropped the bike while doing your licence test then it's correct  and reasonable not to let you pass.

More details? Where exactly did you fail, what did the instructor say? And how slow is that slalom, first gear with clutch half engaged and rear brake applied?

Yes, first gear with clutch and rear break when necessary. There are 6 cones in the slow test and i failed on the steering part. I just couldnt slalom the cones without hitting them. The instructor told me my speed was somethimes not even. But also a 8 figure test was pretty hard. I drove an 50cc-gear for 3 years but bends like this are pretty new to me. Also the weight of the Honda cannot be compared with an 50cc-gear Derbi Senda bike. Thanks for the advice guys, ill try to counter balance more and steer without looking close infront of me, but instead looking towards the end. Today i will practice with an old RAT BIKE on the industrial zone.
