Hot damn, my bike redlines at 8.3K. Shifting at 8K on a harley? Rather not...

Shifiting at 50 to 60% of redline would be better.

So I'm learning the ropes about riding (Bikes in general really.) and have really found this useful. You used some great tips that I'm sure my asshole friends would have never thought to tell me. They all have bikes but i have yet to ride with them, drive, or better yet even touch their bikes. Anyhow, Ive decided to learn this shit by myself . I dont own a bike as of the moment but figured i would take the safety class and see if this IS something I'm going to love..no doubt though. The whole down shift thing still gets me a little confused though. I'm afraid I'm going to downshift too soon and flip, brake roughly or fall :/ lol. (exaggeration much?) but u made it very clear that this kind of crap can happen and with me i pretty certain it will. So yeh it makes me nervous. But other then that i loved reading it. Very helpful. Now..i just need someone to help me get started on a bike. I have no effin bike. ugh.

downshifting, just down shift when you already in high revs, down shift at 4-5k, you will be fine :)

braking, just dont hammer on the anchors, apply them gently...

but yeah im guessing your in america, so take the course and see what you think about motor biking,

and to be fair to your friends, im not surprised they dont let you touch there bikes, if you crash or damage a friends bike they get yours untill theres in repaired (by you) and if u cant repair it you need to buy them one of equal/greater value. :)

god look people, its my b-day and im still giving people advice!!! god im too nice!

Hmmm I dont let anyone on my bike.... I'm very protective of my Sasha.  But if you want to learn how to start out i suggest buying a small bike and taking a course. Its tricky for new riders to get into riding, because you're pretty much using every limb at the same time - so it takes time to get your movements in sync. But once you've got to grips with it, you've never known such joy! Don't worry about downshifting. It's not a big deal. When the engine's running at high revs, shift up when the engine is revving at low revs shift down.

I've never heard of somebody flipping or crashing their bike from shifting down. When i'm racing around, downshifting at higher revs causes my rear to lock and shake around breifly, but it's normal.

But as a rule i never let any new rider on my bike....

It's more fun to LIVE life than to just cruise through it. People who play by the rules are in nature the same baby locked away securely in that protective, warm womb.

yeh i guess i see where u guys are coming from with the whole issue about others riding your bike. I would have been super pissed if someone wrecked mine. People are always so cocky when it comes to trying new things..just like those people in the vids. All of them are around friends and they don't wanna seem completely clueless so they try to do something crazy and end up trashing the other guys bike. None of those things would have happened if they would just stop trying to be hard asses. But anyways.

not always true, when u havnt touched a bike, and then u get on a 600/ton racing bike, you think u need more thottle then you do....

anyone that touches any of my bikes if they wreck i get there bike, untill they repair/buy something of equal or greater value.
