Looking for a decent Motorcycle alarm system

Postby shiznit565 » Sat May 08, 2010 12:56 am

Hey I'm looking for a decent alarm system to put on my new ninja 250r, but i don't know what type to get, i want something that gives like a warning if its slightly bumped or someone is way to close, and a loud alarm if someone gets on it or pushes it, I'm hoping to find one in the range of 100-300$, heck even an alarm that would just go of if someone tried messing with my bike at all. any and all suggestions in my price range would be greatly appreciated.

I have a Datatool System 3 alarm on my SV. Loud enough, the motion sensor is incredibly sensitive though, to the point where even of you brush past the bike with it on it will start beeping. I don't know how expensive it is though, as it came with the bike when I bought it.

You're not gonna get an alarm that senses somebody is too close and gives a warning. All of them go off by sensing the bike is being moved somehow.

I hope you asked that as a joke, ha ha. It would be quite evident if a bike had an alarm.

Dude, it doesn't. They don't come factory installed, its something you buy separately and put on yourself. I honestly wouldn't worry about your 250r if you have a garage to put it in. Nobody can just roll it off without trying to pick the lock and everything. When you turn the bike off and take the key out, the handlebars are locked in a turned position. The best they can do is run around in a circle with it. If you're worried about it getting knocked over, an alarm isn't going to help. It'll only make a bunch of noise once it's been knocked over. A motorcycle thief is not going to steal your ninja 250r.

its not a thief i am worried about, I'm still in highschool, and there are obviously douchebags that will try and sit on my bike, and you never know someone might try to push my bike over. so i just really need a decent alarm to deter them away from touching my bike at all

Yeah i understand those douchebags since i'm in high school also. If you're worried about people like that, then yes an alarm will help a ton. There's alarms that will make sounds depending on what somebody does. It gives off small warning type sounds if anybody tilts your bike upright off the kickstand and can sense anybody bumping into it, etc. Here's one that's pretty cheap and supposed to be really good: Gorilla Motorcycle Alarm. It'll show up on the remote if anybody does anything and you can hit the panic button if you see anybody messing with it.

Just get some good insurance and get gap coverage(if financed), with a $500 deductable.
Anyone tips it over, steals it, the kraken get set loose on it.
Doesnt matter cause your covered and worse case then your out $500.

Get some solid insurance and u can just park it where ever with the key in the damn thing.
Puts your mind at ease.

That's a nice alarm. It sounds like you can set the sensitivity levels, that's a good thing. I would only buy an alarm if i had a nice looking, fast bike though. Even if it didn't cost much, if it's nice looking and fast, somebody will want to steal it.

In Canada I used a 5 dollar purse alarm. It work very well. You take the key out....place it under your seat.....and if someone moves the bike it goes off and it's fairly loud. Before getting on the bike you just open the seat and put the key in it to disable it. You get a few seconds to put the key in it when it moves so you have time.
