Paid 800 for it

It's an 83 honda shadow 750. It's my first bike and it definately isn't going to be winning any contests but I know I sure as hell wont cry when I lay her down. :)

Just thought I would share this with you guys.

Runs smoothe. The person that rode it back for me got it up to 70 mph and through all 6 gears. Doesn't slip or anything.

Ran it up some tonight and it had trouble in the cold starting (35-40 degrees outside) but that's to be expected I'd assume in most older bikes.

Yea, cold weather starting can be tough sometimes, just use a little choke to let it warm up.

You will love the bike!  Just clean it up a little over the winter and ride the crap out of it!

Have fun!

Yeah looking to get a matte black look for it. The helmet I'm getting is a gmax gm68s in matte black too. I like the blue but then i hate the blue at the same time. the stuff that looks like rust is actually dust. So that's all good.

Not sure how I should go about cleaning it all up. Guess just some rags & a toothbrush for the engine bites.

Depending on how far you want to take it, you can even pull of the engine side covers and polish them up aside from the normal soap, water, and waxing.  Maybe slap a seat cover on there to hide the tears.

It doesn't have to look amazing being a used first bike, so that should make it look pretty nice.

Yea, looks much better with the light.

Only major thing noticeable in that pic is the tear in the seat, but overall it looks like a nice bike! :)

Yeah. Dont really care about the tear in the seat. But like you said a seat cover is probably my best bet. However you sit really far forward on this bike so I'm thinking about changing the seats all together. Most people are suggesting I remove the sissy seat. But I'll see how far I get.

Really happy with the purchase and the only issue I have performance wise is when I engage the steering lock.. the rear brake light turns on. Not sure the issue there :(

Edit: rear brake light.

There is actually two settings on a lot of those bike for the steering lock.

Mine has the lock, and the lock with the rear light on in the next key position.

Try moving the key around and see if there is another position for just the steering lock.  Most of the time, the the lock setting is located when turning the key counter-clockwise.

Thanks.. it was a bit stuck so it didn't want to easily go into place.

What type of oil should I get for it?

I would check the service manual.

I believe this is the correct link for that bike, it's a huge download so I can't check it myself at the moment.

I was able to look really quick, but double check.

In the lubrication section (page 20 I think it was), its says engine oil should be 10W-40, also mentions using Honda 4-stroke oil or equivalent.
